2008 TV Shows
Come on, I live in a metropolis full of 6 million other people; the entertainment capital of the world, no less; the city that never sleeps! What else is there to do but sit at home and watch tv?
I watched 24 tv shows this year. Last year I saw 11.
BEST: Lost: Season 2 (2005)Deciding on which 2008 TV show was the best of the year was a no-brainer: I was absolutely obsessed with Lost. The harder decision, however, was which season of Lost was the best? I actually watched all four seasons this year and they were all so consistently good. It was all one big blur so I can't really determine which was which, but I'll go with the second season. I was hooked from the get go of the first season, but there were too many small, silly things (like the polar bear) that kept me from selecting it as the best year. The second season kept up all the mysterious energy laid down in season one while adding a completely new level of intrigue to the story. The third and fourth seasons were fantastic as well, but by then I guess you knew what you were getting. So season 2 it is!
RUNNER-UP: Celebrity Rehab 2I was a fan of last year's Celebrity Rehab as I like Dr. Drew and love watching trainwrecks. However, it was a bit of a one-trick show as Gary Conaway was clearly the most entertaining and every other celebrity really didn't keep any interest for long. The second season was just as wacky but Gary's consistent craziness was balanced with the batshit antics of Gary Busey. What a dynamic duo! Unfortunately, with a show such as this one - where the crazy factor decreases as the show continues - the beginning was so much better than the ending. However, with a teaser of a gem like Sober House - the natural sequel that watches the cast existing together in a drug-free living environment - the natural letdown was mitigated somewhat.
WORST: Heroes: Season 1 (2006)Well, I'm a huge Lost fan (no news there) and I have always been an avid comic supporter so I thought I'd give Heroes a try. How could it go wrong, really? Well, I already gave my scathing review of this show so I won't bore anyone by repeating myself. Essentially, it comes to this: the writing is sloppy. The dialogue is terrible. The powers are super lame. Maybe all of this is cool because it's new to non-comic book fans but I have just seen all of this mediocre bullshit in bad comic books for years now.
RUNNER-UP: Flavor of Love: Season 3The infamous Flavor Of Love really gave VH1 an identity and took the reality crown from Mtv. I was enthralled by the first two seasons and was even into several of the spinoffs. So, when the third season of Flavor of Love debuted, I pretty much knew what to expect. Unfortunately, every episode of the show reeked of "one season too many" with no energy, nothing new and creative, and an ending that was the most anticlimatic thing I've ever seen. A waste of my life.
