The Shack
Holy shit! A decade?!
Yes, 10 years ago, Bill, Richard and I (casually known as Bras) chose to live in a run-down house in Manassas, VA with no water, no electricity and holes in both the ground and walls all in the name of music! Our plans were bold: we wanted to write, rehearse and record as much new music as possible and end the entire adventure with a thrilling live performance. Unfortunately, we ran into money, time and laziness issues and weren't quite as productive as we'd hoped. Luckily, what we lacked in results we more than made up for in fun!
This Shack summer of 2000 was such a legendary time in my life that I felt it deserved some measure of celebration, but I wasn't totally sure what would be fitting. Luckily, I kept a journal of all our mishaps and merriment at the feverish pace of a middle school girl! Along with a seemingly endless amount of collected artifacts, photos and songs from this period, I began to realize I had enough crap to fill an entire website.
But that wasn't good enough!
Messages From An Annoying, Lazy 19-Year Old Musician
What I ultimately came up with was the idea of merging these two years - 2000 and 2010. Thus, for the first time ever, I will be allowing someone else to post blogs on [stanus.net] - my completely immature, whinny 19-year old self!
Yes, I will be posting the journals, songs, photos and quotes onto this site and stanus.net in REAL TIME! So, whatever exciting things I participated in (such as playing Star Wars Trivial Pursuit) on May 17, 2000 will be posted on May 17, 2010! A grand scheme, I admit, but a Shack-sized anniversary demands Shack-sized ambition!
How To Read This Bullshit
I'll just be posting the Shack journal entries onto the main page of [stanus.butt], with a link to its individual page here. On this individual page I'll post a slew of other, innane nuttery consisting of:
- Artifacts - Any non-photo item from the day (notes, tickets, lewd drawings, etc.). You can click to enlarge these.
- Cack - Translation and background behind the lovely long-running joke of the summer
- Photos - Incriminating photographic evidence of Shack adventures
- Recording Progress - What, specifically, was recorded for the tracks we worked on this day.
- Recordings - All the musical goodies (ok, maybe not) we recorded at the Shack.
- References - A little more information about shit mentioned in the entries.
... and most exciting of all, commentary from the participants in this strange scenario in the first place!
NOTE: I have done a little self-censorship to avoid any hassles. All I have done is removed the last names of anybody mentioned.
